Below is a list of 40 cases studies provided and summarised by Sports Resolutions. They are designed to be used as a resource to complement the teaching materials.
The cases were collated from Sport Resolutions’ archives and concern issues related to: Anti-Doping, Athlete Selection and Eligibility, Integrity and Discipline, Regulation and Governance.
Each Sport Resolutions case includes a case decision as well as a case summary. The case summaries are intended to provide a brief overview of their corresponding case decision. The case summaries are structured as follows:
- Summary
- Key Words
- Background Facts
- Reasoning and Decision of the Tribunal/Panel that determined the matter
- Learning Points
The summaries should be read alongside the decisions and should not be treated as a standalone document. The case decisions set out the details of the case and the reasoning of the tribunal/panel in full. The learning points are intended to facilitate discussion about the issues raised within a case decision.
In addition to the 40 original cases, additional civil cases are provided that give relevant context or precedent to other decisions. These include summaries of the Dutee Chand and Caster Semenya cases.
There is also a Glossary of Legal Terms to aid with understanding the case studies.
